  • Direct Calcium 4 x 94 g

    Direct Bolus Direct Calcium 4 x 94 g

    Out of stock

Direct Calcium BolusDietetic feed for dairy cows in bolus form to supplement calcium in the period around calving, to reduce the risk of milk fever and subclinical hypocalcaemia.Contains a combination of 2 readily available forms of calcium, calcium formate and calcium acetate, and provides 25 grams of available calcium per bolus. Why a calcium bolusShortly before or after calving, a dairy cow can develop a shortage of calcium reserves in the blood, because the calcium requirement rises sharply around calving. If the cow cannot replenish these reserves quickly enough, the blood calcium level can drop too low, resulting in visible milk fever symptoms such as reduced appetite and activity, cold ears and poorly functioning skeletal and organ muscles. In a larger group (40-50%), however, no symptoms are immediately visible, but the low calcium level can still have consequences later in lactation. The Direct Calcium Bolus is an easy-to-administer gelatine capsule that dissolves quickly in the rumen, so that its contents of calcium formate and calcium acetate are also released quickly. Thanks to the good availability of both forms of calcium, the calcium quickly becomes available to the cow. This ensures a gradual rise in the calcium level, which is maintained over a longer period. The perfect choice for every dairy farmer to supplement calcium in dairy cows, for an optimal start to lactation!Feeding advice1 bolus 12-24 hours before calving.1 bolus immediately after calving.1 bolus 10-12 hours after calving.1 bolus 24 hours after calving.Supportive after milk fever therapy1 bolus 2 hours after an intravenous calcium treatment.1 bolus 12 hours after an intravenous calcium treatment.Administer orally using a suitable applicator. The bolus can be administered using the white rings in the bolus applicator (36 mm). Good to know: This Direct Calcium Bolus is the successor to the Excellent Calcium Bolus Gold (CALC05018 and CALC05019).

  • Direct Udder Support 12 x 60 g

    Direct Bolus Direct Udder Support 12 x 60 g

    Out of stock

The Direct Udder Support Bolus is a complementary feed for dairy cattle that has been specially developed to keep the herd healthy and resilient. The Direct Udder Support promotes the natural immune defences of the animals and helps maintain good udder health by making use of the special properties of specific plants and herbs. The bolus contains black garlic, ginseng and chicory, all of which have unique properties that boost the animals' immune system and udder health. Black garlic is created when ordinary white garlic undergoes a ripening process during which a number of important conversions take place in the garlic. As a result, black garlic contains more than 2x as many antioxidants as white garlic and is more easily absorbed. In addition, it does not have the unpleasant garlic smell, so it has no effect on the smell of the milk. Ginseng is a unique herb that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 3,000 years. Ginseng boosts the immune system and has an antioxidant effect. It also has a natural calming effect that can support the animal in stressful situations. Chicory is an important source of inulin, a group of dietary fibres that have been shown to have a prebiotic effect. This means that it promotes intestinal function and a healthy gut flora. In addition, inulin strengthens the immune system and calms the gastrointestinal tract, helping cattle feel better more quickly. Feeding advice:It is recommended to give 2 boluses per animal, with the option of repeating this after 5 days in periods of increased requirements, such as at drying off or calving. The boluses are administered orally using a suitable applicator. DIRE010: The pack contains 4 boluses of 60 g each.DIRE011: The pack contains 12 boluses of 60 g each. • Excellent Cattle Bullet 20 st

Excellent Excellent Cattle Bullet 20 pcs

    Out of stock

Cattle Bullet, also known as the dry cow bolus, is a specially developed complementary feed (dietetic mineral feed) for grass-fed cattle. The bolus is intended for use during the period around calving and offers an effective duration of 4 months. The feeding advice is 2 undamaged boluses per animal (from 150 kg body weight). The bolus contains a combination of essential trace elements and vitamins, including zinc, manganese, copper, iodine, cobalt, selenium, and vitamins A, D3 and E.There are many reasons why more and more farmers are choosing a mineral bolus. One of the most important advantages is the continuous controlled release of minerals, which maintains a constant mineral balance. This is especially important because cows eat less and less as calving approaches (dry matter intake declines). With Cattle Bullet you can be sure that the right vitamins and trace elements are released daily over a period of 4 months for the cow. Other advantages are easy administration, better absorption of minerals, less mess in the barn and the fact that boluses do not depend on the cow’s taste. In short, a mineral bolus offers many benefits for maintaining the health of cows and is an effective way to optimally support the health of the herd. Feeding advice: 2 undamaged boluses per animal (from 150 kg body weight).Effective duration after administration is 4 months. The bolus can be administered using the coloured rings in the bolus gun (27 mm). General information about the mineral bolus:* What is a mineral bolus?* Benefits of the mineral bolus.* The mineral bolus scientifically researched.* Comparison of mineral boluses.* Why give a mineral bolus instead of powders.* Small changes in nutrition, big consequences for the fertility of dairy cows.* Mineral bolus in combination with the Repidose Bolus. privateMineral bolus bolus minerals calving milk fever

Cattle get most of their minerals and trace elements from the ration, but at some moments that falls short. Think of the days around calving or a grazing period on land low in trace elements. Here you will find boluses for those moments, mineral licks for daily use and bolus guns to give a bolus safely.

Three types, three moments

  • Transition boluses for the fresh cow: calcium, energy, phosphorus, magnesium, bicarbonate and udder support, including from Rumivet, Direct Bolus and Hofman Animal Care (Dairy line). There is also a Fresh Cow Starter Box.
  • Long-acting boluses that release trace elements over a longer period, such as Excellent All-Mineral Plus, Cattle Bullet, Uno Grow and Uno Vleesvee, and the Ferti line (Dry, Grow, Plus, Vleesvee).
  • Mineral licks and lick blocks for free access in the barn or field: Liksteen Mineral Rund, Liksteen Biotin, Likblok Toplik for cattle and youngstock and the Salt Lick Parex salt lick.

The right bolus gun for the bolus

You give a bolus with a bolus gun (applicator) that matches the diameter of the bolus. There are stainless steel applicators in 17, 27 and 36 mm and plastic models in 27 and 34 mm. Check the label of your bolus for the diameter needed. An applicator that is too wide does not grip the bolus properly; one that is too narrow will not take it. The Vink head lifter helps to keep the cow's head in the right position.

What to watch out for

A bolus is a complementary feed, not a medicine for milk fever, ketosis or mastitis. If you suspect a deficiency, first have blood or grass tested, so you know what is really lacking; an excess of some trace elements, such as copper, is not good either. Always give a bolus with the head straight forward and not too high, so the cow can swallow normally.

A compact selection on the search term is in minerals and boluses. Around calving, you use these together with calving supplies and drenching equipment. The Excellent cow magnet and calf boluses can also be found via calf rearing. Back to everything for cattle.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a transition bolus and a long-acting bolus?
A transition bolus delivers, for example, calcium or energy over a short time around calving. A long-acting bolus releases trace elements gradually over a longer period.

Which bolus gun do I need?
An applicator with the same diameter as your bolus; sizes range from 17 to 36 mm. The diameter is on the bolus label.

Do beef cattle need different boluses from dairy cattle?
There are separate versions for beef cattle, such as Uno Vleesvee and Ferti Vleesvee. Match your choice to the ration and any deficiencies.
