Water to the field, measuring out hard feed, making up a solution or carrying away wet manure: in a yard, almost nothing gets done without a bucket. This collection contains sturdy stable buckets and flexible tubs from Vplast in sizes from 6 to 65 litres, so you pick the right shape for every job instead of always the same old bucket.
Shape and capacity per job
| Type | Capacity | Handy for |
|---|---|---|
| Bucket with pouring spout | 15 l | Topping up drinkers and troughs without spilling |
| Bucket with measuring scale | 20 l | Measuring water or feed, mixing solutions |
| Flexible tub (V-Trug Flexi) | 6 l | Small portions of feed, brushes, grooming kit |
| Flexible tub (V-Trug Flexi) | 65 l | Soaking hay or straw, collecting bedding or leaves |
A separate lid is available for the small 7-litre bucket, so feed stays dry and is not found by mice or chickens.
Rigid or flexible?
A classic bucket keeps its shape and pours neatly. You bend a flexible tub's handles together to carry or empty it with one hand, and if a horse steps on it, it usually springs back instead of breaking. So for pouring and measuring, choose a bucket; for collecting and carrying, a tub.
Use colours cleverly
The buckets with pouring spout come in several colours, as do the 6-litre tubs. Make a system of it: for example one colour for drinking water, another for feed and a separate colour for cleaning products. That way you prevent traces of detergent ending up in the drinker. If you have several horses or groups of animals, you can also keep one colour per animal.
Points to note
- A full 65-litre tub of water is too heavy to lift; use it for lighter loads or fill it where it stands.
- Measuring marks are a guide; for precise dosing of products, use a measuring jug.
If you fill a bucket with a cleaning solution, you will find the products in stable cleaning & disinfection. For keeping water pipes frost-free, see winter supplies, and the manure fork to go with it is in brooms, shovels & rakes. All stable supplies together are under stable & yard.
Frequently asked questions
Which bucket is handy for topping up drinkers?
A bucket with a pouring spout, such as the 15-litre one. The spout gives a directed stream, so you spill less beside the trough.
Can I use a flexible tub as a feeder?
Many people do so for hay or feed on the ground. Do check that the animal cannot stand in it or knock it over and kick it away.
Does the lid fit every bucket?
The separate lid in this collection is designed for the 7-litre bucket. There is no matching lid in the range for other sizes.
