Our ingredients
To make our food, we dry-cure 10.6 kg of meat for a 12 kg bag, making it easier to incorporate into our kibble. With the right amounts of vegetables, fruit, and herbs, Yourdog is a healthy, nutritious choice for your dog.
Buffalo
At Yourdog, we use meat from free-raised, grass-fed buffalo. Buffalo meat is known for its creamy, fresh flavor and rich color, and it's packed with vitamins and minerals. With lower cholesterol and fat content and fewer calories, this tender meat is packed with health benefits.
Poultry
At Yourdog, we use duck, chicken, and turkey, which together give our kibble its delicious flavor and aroma. The highly digestible proteins in the poultry promote healthy muscle growth and are rich in vitamins and minerals.
Vegetables
To provide your dog with extra valuable nutrients, we've added super-healthy vegetables to our food. This means vegetables are not only nutritious but also offer other health benefits. The crude fiber in vegetables is good for the intestines and can contribute to digestion, among other things.

Spices
The healthy herbs that enrich our food are derived from plants grown in Europe. The use of herbs, roots, flowers, plants, and seaweed, among other things, goes back thousands of years. These ingredients support the natural processes in the dog's body, such as digestion. Every ingredient we add to our dog food is carefully selected for its beneficial properties. Depending on the dog's size, breed, or breed group, specific ingredients are highlighted. Breed-specific ailments can be reduced by using herbs, roots, flowers, and plants.
American Akita specific vegetables, herbs, and fruits
We carefully examined the breed characteristics of the American Akita. We also researched the characteristics of the FCI breed section and the FCI breed group to which the American Akita belongs. Based on this research, in consultation with leading Dutch nutritionists, we selected ingredients that optimally benefit the health and well-being of the American Akita.
Nettle
Nettle is a genus of plants, including the common nettle and the small nettle, found in the Netherlands and Belgium. Nettle is known for its cleansing and blood-purifying properties. According to various sources, nettle is bactericidal and therefore very effective against infectious diseases. The leaves are also effective against diarrhea and other digestive disorders.
Nettle supports liver and kidney function by stimulating the breakdown of waste products. It also supports bladder health and promotes hair growth in dogs.
Nettle also contains silicic acid, also known as silicon. This is a building block that forms part of connective tissue in bones, tendons, ligaments, skin, hair, and nails. Silicon supports the natural production of skin cells and helps maintain healthy skin.
At Yourdog, we add nettle to our dog food because it can positively contribute to preventing breed-specific complaints related to the dog's coat, skin, and bones, as well as to preventing digestive and/or urination problems.
Banana
The banana plant grows in tropical regions where temperatures do not drop below 10 degrees Celsius. There are even indications that the banana was cultivated in New Guinea approximately 7,000 years ago. The name derives from the word Œbanaana in the language of the Wolof people.
Bananas are rich in vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, C, and B11 (folic acid), as well as the minerals potassium, magnesium, iron, and zinc. The natural antioxidant vitamin C can strengthen the immune system. Vitamin B11, also known as folic acid, can support the immune system and contribute to a well-functioning nervous system. It can also reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Potassium can also help lower blood pressure in dogs with high blood pressure, while magnesium can help relax muscles and promote bone growth. Furthermore, bananas contain a lot of good fiber and promote more beneficial bacteria in the intestines.
Apple
The apple tree is a tree in the Malus genus, which produces the eating apples, particularly common in the Northern Hemisphere. It grows in temperate regions.
Dietary fiber has a versatile effect in the digestive tract. It absorbs moisture, making stool soft and smooth. Dietary fiber also increases intestinal volume. This not only stimulates intestinal function but also ensures thorough elimination of waste.
Apples are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber. They're also rich in pectin. Pectin is a soluble fiber that helps support healthy gut flora. It also contributes to the palatability of the chunks, and apples are low in calories.
Rich in vitamins A and C. Vitamin A is good for the skin and coat and strengthens the immune system. Vitamin C supports muscle and bone development during early childhood.
Puppy, adult or senior?
To help you make the right choice between our American Akita dog food options, you can use the following guidelines. If your American Akita is under 11 months old, choose the Puppy variety. For an American Akita over 7 years old, we recommend the Yourdog American Akita Senior. If your dog is over 11 months old and under 7 years old, you can choose the Adult variety.

Switching advice
If you're switching to Yourdog from another food brand, we recommend following these steps. First, feed 25% Yourdog and 75% of the old dog food. Your dog can get used to this for two days. Then, feed 50% Yourdog and 50% of the old dog food. It's important to let your dog get used to this for two or three days as well. Then, mix 75% Yourdog and 25% of the old dog food. Your dog is now almost completely switched to Yourdog. Continue this for two days. After this, you can switch to 100% Yourdog American Akita dog food at your own discretion.
Storage advice
After opening the Yourdog packaging, the food is exposed to oxygen, moisture, and light, which can affect its shelf life and flavor. Therefore, it's important to store the food properly after opening the bag, preferably in an airtight container or barrel in a dry, cool, and dark place. It's best not to put the food loose in the barrel, but to place the entire bag inside, sealing it as tightly as possible.
