The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is an ancient Scottish terrier breed with a rich and unique history. It originated in the border region between Scotland and England in the 17th and 18th centuries, where farmers and hunters used it to hunt badgers, otters, and foxes.
The breed became famous thanks to the writer Sir Walter Scott, who introduced a character with a pack of small, courageous terriers in his 1815 novel Guy Mannering . These dogs were later called "Dandie Dinmont's Terriers"—and thus the breed got its unique name.
The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is the only dog breed named after a fictional character, rather than a region or breeder.

The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is a short-legged, elongated terrier with a distinctive appearance. Its body is muscular yet elegant, with short legs and a slightly arched back.
What makes it instantly recognizable is its soft, fluffy crest on its head, which contrasts with the slightly harsher coat on its body. The coat has a dual structure: a soft undercoat with a coarser topcoat.
