A stable runs on routine: mucking out every morning, giving water, handing out feed and getting the floor clean again. This main section brings together the tools and consumables for all those regular jobs, regardless of which animal is in the stable. Horse owner, chicken fancier or livestock keeper with a handful of sheep: here you will find buckets, shovels, floor squeegees, cleaning products, protective clothing and items that help your stable through the winter. The subcollections below are organised by task, so you quickly get to the right tool.

How to put together a basic set

Start with your daily route through the stable. If you keep horses on straw or wood fibre, you usually reach for a manure fork or poo picker set, the wheelbarrow you already have and a sturdy broom for the aisle. A concrete floor with water and urine calls more for a floor squeegee with a rubber blade. Then look at carrying: a bucket with a pouring spout pours more neatly into a drinker, and a flexible tub is easy to carry and knock out.

With handles, pay attention to length and diameter. Many scrapers and shovels have a fixed handle thickness, so check that a separate handle fits before you order it. A longer handle saves bending, a shorter one with D-grip gives more control with heavy shovelling.

Hygiene is the second pillar. A stable that you first clean thoroughly and only then disinfect stays fresh longer than one in which you spray product over the dirt. Also think about your own protection: gloves, overalls and, for dusty or wet work, a suitable mask.

What to bear in mind

  • Frost protection cables and electrical aids need power; check in advance whether there is a suitable socket nearby.
  • Use cleaning and disinfecting products according to the label, with the stated dilution and contact time.
  • Tools with plastic parts last longer if you rinse them after use and do not leave them in full sun.

Frequently asked questions

Will I also find items specifically for horses or chickens here?
This main section is about tools and hygiene that are useful for any stable. Animal-specific items such as drinkers and feeders are in the collections per species.

What is the minimum I need to muck out a stable daily?
A manure fork or poo picker set, a broom for the aisle and a bucket or tub. For a smooth, wet floor, add a floor squeegee.

Do I always need to disinfect a stable?
For most hobby stables, thorough cleaning is the most important step. Disinfecting is done in addition, for example after illness or before new animals arrive, and always according to the label.
