Which feeder you need depends mainly on where your horse eats: at the stable door, in a corner of the stable, on the ground in the paddock or from the feed room. This collection contains feeders, troughs and buckets in plastic, rubber and galvanised metal, from a 7-litre foal feeder to a 90-litre feed/water trough.

Plastic, rubber or metal
Plastic is light and comes in many colours, so you can assign each feeder to a horse. Rubber gives when a horse steps on it or kicks it, which makes it suitable for the ground. Galvanised metal, such as the 45 x 34 x 23 cm feeder, is designed for fixed mounting and lasts a long time. For those who rinse the feeder often, there are models with a drain plug and a separate screw for the water outlet.
Watch out for this
A foal eats more easily from a low, small feeder, such as the 7-litre OK Plast foal feeder. If your horse pushes feed over the edge, choose a feeder with an anti-spill rim. Check hanging feeders regularly: a cracked rim or bent hook can become sharp. Buckets and flexible tubs are separate in feed buckets and tubs.
If a feeder does not suit, look further within stable and field: for water at the drinkers, for forage at haynets and for enrichment at stable toys.
Frequently asked questions
How many litres should a horse feeder hold?
For an ordinary portion of hard feed, an 11 to 16 litre feeder is usually enough. A larger trough is handy if you give soaked feed or sugar beet pulp.
Can a feeder also serve as a drinker?
The 15, 60 and 90 litre feed/water troughs are intended for both. For a permanent water supply in the stable, automatic drinkers are more practical.
Which feeder is easiest to keep clean?
A smooth plastic feeder with drain plug or drain screw: you rinse it out without taking it down.
