Feed and water at the right height
You hang the 28 cm galvanised bucket and feeder holder on a wall or gate. That way the container stays put, at a height you choose yourself, and no goat can stand in it. Hang it high enough that the goats can reach it with their heads, but cannot step into it with their front feet. For water, a hanging bucket works better than a loose container on the floor; refresh it daily, because goats are fussy drinkers.
Fitting out a barn: buying guide
- Feeding places: provide enough space at the rack or feeder, so even the lowest goat in the pecking order can eat in peace. Better two holders some distance apart than one for the whole group.
- Floor: a dry lying area with clean straw prevents hoof problems. A raised platform or board to lie on is popular.
- Buckets: a bucket with measuring scale (12 litres) helps when mixing milk or drinking water with additives; small stainless steel buckets with a flat side hang easily against a wall.
Points to note
