  • Excellent D-Bolus (Bicarbonaat)

    Excellent Excellent D-Bolus (Bicarbonate)

    Out of stock

D-Bolus.Bicarbonate pill for calves, sheep and goats to buffer acidity and stimulate the urge to drink. The bolus that gets the calf drinking again quickly. The D-Bolus is also sometimes called the drinking or thirst bolus! The D-Bolus is a bicarbonate pill used as a complementary feed for calves. It has been specially developed as a dietetic feed to stabilise the water and electrolyte balance in the calf's body and to support physiological digestion. This is important because a good balance of these substances is essential for the calf's health. One of the main advantages of the D-Bolus is that it can increase the urge to drink in calves with diarrhoea. When calves suffer from diarrhoea, they lose not only fluid but also buffers, which lowers the acidity level. A side effect of this is that their urge to drink also decreases. This can cause the calf to become increasingly weak and even put it at risk of dying. With bicarbonate, the D-Bolus provides an important buffer. The D-Bolus is therefore perfect for increasing the urge to drink. The D-Bolus contains 10% more bicarbonate than comparable pills and comes in a special fast-dissolving gelatine capsule, so it can be absorbed faster and takes effect more quickly. This makes it a more effective solution than comparable products. The D-Bolus is easy to administer with a bolus gun.The bolus is also ideal for buffering acidity in sheep and goats. It can be used as a dietetic feed to reduce the risk of acidosis (rumen acidosis) and can also be used here to stimulate the urge to drink. Feeding advice: Calves: Stimulating the urge to drink in case of diarrhoea: At the first signs of digestive disorders, give 1 D-Bolus per calf, followed by 1 D-Bolus with every feed for 1-2 days.Reducing acidosis after birth: Administer 1 D-Bolus immediately after birth.Sheep and goats:Stimulating the urge to drink: 1 D-Bolus twice a day for 1-2 days.Reducing the risk of rumen acidosis: Administer 2 D-Boluses at the same time and repeat after 12 hours.Administration: Orally with the bolus gun PILL0002 (not included).

    Excellent Excellent Uno Grow 20 x 112 g

    Out of stock

UNO Grow is a mineral bolus for young stock with a duration of action of 6 months. It is a mineral feed (dietetic feed) designed to improve the growth, development and fertility of young stock. It also lowers costs, so it pays for itself. UNO Grow has been researched and proven in practice, demonstrating its effectiveness. The absorbability and solubility of minerals from the ration is often unstable for growing animals such as young stock. This can lead to an increased need for vitamins and minerals. UNO Grow offers a guaranteed regular release of these important nutrients, which is perfectly absorbed by the young animal's body. The benefits of UNO Grow are: Optimisation of growth, development and fertility of young stock Contains 6 important minerals and 4 essential vitamins Guaranteed controlled release per day 6 months of effectiveness Labour-saving Researched and proven Nothing remains behind in the animal Field research shows that the use of UNO Grow boluses can lead to an improvement in fertility in terms of the age at first calving of heifers. Heifers that received UNO Grow boluses had an age at first calving of 722 days, while heifers without boluses had an age at first calving of 762 days. This is a difference of 40 days. In addition, field research has also shown that the use of UNO Grow boluses can lead to a reduction in the number of inseminations per probable conception. Heifers that received the boluses had a ratio of 1.00 insemination per probable conception, while heifers without boluses had a ratio of 1.75. This is a difference of 0.75 or 75%. Finally, an improvement in the average growth of the young stock was also found. Heifers that received the UNO Grow boluses had an average growth of 134 kg, while heifers without boluses had an average growth of 121 kg. This is a difference of 13 kg or 10%. The recommended feeding advice is 2 UNO Grow boluses per animal weighing 150 kg or more. The bolus starts to dissolve slowly on the flat side, and the coating around the bolus ensures that it dissolves gradually over a period of 180 days (6 months). Administering 2 boluses is necessary so that the young stock meets today's requirements for trace elements and vitamins. In addition, the two boluses knock against each other, keeping the release constant. Why more and more farmers are choosing a mineral bolus:Giving a mineral bolus to young stock is an effective way to support the health of your herd. Unlike powdered minerals, a bolus is administered directly into the animal's stomach using a suitable bolus gun, so that the minerals are released continuously for 6 months. This helps to maintain a constant mineral balance and prevent any deficiencies. One of the benefits of using a bolus is the easy administration. Instead of giving powdered minerals by mouth, a bolus only needs to be given once. This saves time and reduces the risk of errors. Another benefit of a bolus is better mineral absorption. Because the bolus is administered directly into the stomach, the absorption of minerals can be improved compared to giving powdered minerals by mouth. In addition, using a bolus leads to less mess in the barn. There is no loss of minerals through feed refusals or the animal's behaviour. One of the most important benefits of boluses is that they do not depend on the animal's taste. This means that ingredients that are less palatable but necessary for maintaining the animal's health, such as certain minerals or vitamins, can be incorporated into the bolus without the animal being aware of it and without depending on whether the cow wants to eat it. In summary: a mineral bolus offers many benefits for supporting herd health, such as a continuous release of minerals, easy administration, better absorption, less mess in the barn, and no restrictions on the choice of ingredients because palatability is irrelevant! The bolus can be administered using the coloured rings in the bolus gun (27 mm).

Cattle get most of their minerals and trace elements from the ration, but at some moments that falls short. Think of the days around calving or a grazing period on land low in trace elements. Here you will find boluses for those moments, mineral licks for daily use and bolus guns to give a bolus safely.

Three types, three moments

  • Transition boluses for the fresh cow: calcium, energy, phosphorus, magnesium, bicarbonate and udder support, including from Rumivet, Direct Bolus and Hofman Animal Care (Dairy line). There is also a Fresh Cow Starter Box.
  • Long-acting boluses that release trace elements over a longer period, such as Excellent All-Mineral Plus, Cattle Bullet, Uno Grow and Uno Vleesvee, and the Ferti line (Dry, Grow, Plus, Vleesvee).
  • Mineral licks and lick blocks for free access in the barn or field: Liksteen Mineral Rund, Liksteen Biotin, Likblok Toplik for cattle and youngstock and the Salt Lick Parex salt lick.

The right bolus gun for the bolus

You give a bolus with a bolus gun (applicator) that matches the diameter of the bolus. There are stainless steel applicators in 17, 27 and 36 mm and plastic models in 27 and 34 mm. Check the label of your bolus for the diameter needed. An applicator that is too wide does not grip the bolus properly; one that is too narrow will not take it. The Vink head lifter helps to keep the cow's head in the right position.

What to watch out for

A bolus is a complementary feed, not a medicine for milk fever, ketosis or mastitis. If you suspect a deficiency, first have blood or grass tested, so you know what is really lacking; an excess of some trace elements, such as copper, is not good either. Always give a bolus with the head straight forward and not too high, so the cow can swallow normally.

A compact selection on the search term is in minerals and boluses. Around calving, you use these together with calving supplies and drenching equipment. The Excellent cow magnet and calf boluses can also be found via calf rearing. Back to everything for cattle.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a transition bolus and a long-acting bolus?
A transition bolus delivers, for example, calcium or energy over a short time around calving. A long-acting bolus releases trace elements gradually over a longer period.

Which bolus gun do I need?
An applicator with the same diameter as your bolus; sizes range from 17 to 36 mm. The diameter is on the bolus label.

Do beef cattle need different boluses from dairy cattle?
There are separate versions for beef cattle, such as Uno Vleesvee and Ferti Vleesvee. Match your choice to the ration and any deficiencies.
