How to Teach Your Dog to 'Jump Through a Hoop'

1. Choose a safe hoop: Use a lightweight, sturdy hoop without sharp edges. Keep it low to the ground at first to prevent injury.
2. Use a reward: Hold a treat or toy in your hand to motivate your dog.
3. Give the command: Clearly say "Jump" or "Through" as you move the treat through the hoop, encouraging your dog to step through.
4. Start at a low height: Let your dog get used to it by simply walking through the hoop without jumping. Reward him generously as soon as he passes the hoop.
5. Increase the challenge: Gradually raise the hoop higher and encourage your dog to jump over it. Reward him immediately when he successfully jumps.
6. Reward only on command: Make sure you only reward your dog when he jumps after you give the command. If he jumps on his own without your signal, don't reward him.
7. Practice and refine: Work on making the jump consistent and add variety by holding the hoop at different heights.

• Start slowly: Let your dog build up confidence before you hold the hoop higher.
• Keep it safe: Use a soft surface to reduce the impact on your dog's joints.
• Make it fun: Reward your dog enthusiastically and keep the training playful.
• Use a stable hoop: If you're not holding the hoop yourself, make sure it stays firmly in place.
