How to Teach Your Dog to "Pick Up Stuff"

1. Start with retrieving: First, teach your dog to pick up an object and bring it to you with the command "Get" or "Retrieve."
2. Introduce the basket: Place an empty basket in front of you and encourage your dog to hold the object above the basket. Reward him as soon as he approaches the basket.
3. Give the command: Say "Clean up" or "In the basket" as you guide him to drop the object into the basket. Use a marker signal like "Yes" once the object is in the basket.
4. Practice repetition: Have your dog place several toys in the basket one at a time. Reward each successful attempt.
5. Refine the behavior: Once he understands the trick, you can vary it by moving the basket further away or using different objects.

• Start with one object: Make it simpler by practicing with a single toy first.
• Reward small steps: Encourage your dog by also rewarding attempts, such as picking up or approaching the basket.
