The coat is short, dense, and smooth, and comes in various colors: yellow, fawn, black, brindle, or a combination of these. White markings are rare.

He needs a strong, confident owner who guides him calmly, consistently, and respectfully. A well-trained and socialized Fila is a dignified and calm guardian—but his natural protective instinct remains ever-present.
Good with children and other pets
The Fila Brasileiro is very loyal to its family and gets along well with children within its own household. It often protects them with its life.
However, this is not a typical family dog in the modern sense: it is large, strong and alert, and its instincts allow it to react quickly to strangers or unexpected situations.
