An udder flamer removes the hair from the udder with a short gas flame, so dirt and manure have less to cling to; you use a dip cup to dip each teat in teat dip after milking. You will find both on this page, together with the matching gas canister and teat dips.
Udder flamer: Terra or Terra Curved
Express makes two versions. The Terra udder flamer has a straight head, the Terra Curved a curved head that makes it easier to reach the rear quarters under the udder. Both run on the 340 g Express gas canister, which also fits the Daos disbudder. Flaming is quick: you move the flame briskly along the udder, without touching the skin. Do this with a calm cow and keep a bucket of water within reach.
Dip cup and teat dip
The Excellent Maxi Dip Cup is a dip cup with a reservoir, so clean product keeps flowing into the cup. For teat dip there is Maxi Dip Blue in a 20 kg pack and KenoLac from CID Lines in 20 or 60 litres. Only choose a large pack if you will use it up within its shelf life.
Points to note
An udder flamer has an open flame: do not use it near straw or hay and let it cool before storing it. Teat dips are not a treatment for an inflamed udder; with clinical mastitis, you need the vet.
